Anchor Point April 21, 2012

Met up with Kenai-guy and RimfireMatt from the NWKA forums for the first time.

Launched out of Anchor Point but not much action.  We were targeting Kings and Halibut.  But we only ended up with two Irish Lords for three kayaks.  Not much bait on the sonar and no other power boats in the area.  Seas were a tad choppy.  three to four foot rollers every now and then but nothing unmanageable.

More exercise and gear prep for that inevitable takedown from a King!!!!!

Launch from Whiskey Gulch. You can still time the currents at either Deep Creek or Anchor Point and you'll be out of the conservation zone in a hurry. Except for right at slack, which is NOT high or low tide, you are at the mercy of the currents that can run up to 4knts.

Hi there. How much does your kayak weigh? I'm looking for a sit on top to fish from and my concern is getting it to the water in areas where there's no relatively smooth path from where I park. Thanks for any info.

It weighs about 85 pounds rigges. I use a hobie cart with soft wheels to get it around.

Don't forget to stop at the Inn for coffee to warm up afterwards. Funny how a place you played in as a kid becomes such a playground for grownups.

Thanks for sharing this. I do hope you guys get some more action next time, hopefully with the Kings and Halibut- that would surely be one to watch.

I have the book which is a great read, the above is very informative and I'm looking forward to trying out some of your ideas over the coming months. And The best beginner book on fly fishing that was recommended to me over 30 years ago was "The Curtis Creek Manifesto" still just as relevant and a good read for every beginning fly fisherman.

Hey Carp Fishing! THough we don't have them in Alaska, Carp fihsing is one of my all time favorite types of fishing. Did a lot of it while I was in NY for school. Big hard pulling fish and experimenting with different baits was always fun!!!
